Step into the shadows to see the light at Sydney’s newest and oldest hotel and bar, Morris on Pitt Street in Haymarket. Housed within a striking Italian renaissance building with palatial Art Deco sentiments, Morris has found new life as an evocative bar and boutique hotel; poised like dusk, between old and new light, this is a destination that hums with intrigue and like no other.
Why should you drop in for a meal at Bar Morris? Here are three good reasons:
What’s your most popular dish/drink:
Our nduja Madeliene with preserved lemon and guanciale is a must-try snack, enjoyed with an Ocean’s Depth Martini – Seven Seasons green ant gin, dry vermouth, house brine and Sicilian olives.
We also recommend our signature sharing menu which is a celebration of our best of the best dishes.
What is your point of difference?
Our design and concept are inspired from Inferno – the first cantica in Dante’s ‘The Divine Comedy’. Bar Morris is a symphony of shadows and light, where the boundaries between hospitality and sophistication blur, creating an atmosphere that is truly one-of-a-kind.
Well-appointed furnishings include marble table tops, chandeliers, mood lighting, leather-clad walls and velvet seats. The combination of hotel guests and restaurant diners infuse our venue with a unique transitional energy, setting the stage for an atmosphere that is both lively and anticipatory.
Our space thrives on the dynamic ebb and flow of people in motion, creating a captivating ambience that resonates with the spirit of exploration.
What is a fun fact that not many people know about the restaurant?
Head Chef, Rosy Scatigna, hails from Puglia and was a former lawyer. Her story is a testament to the extraordinary paths that passion can pave. Formerly a luminary in the legal realm, she made the bold choice to leave her law profession behind seven years ago in pursuit of her culinary aspirations.
Her inspiration springs from the kitchens of her mother and grandmother, where she first witnessed the magic of ingredients transforming into culinary masterpieces.
As the dining experience concludes at Bar Morris, anticipation takes centre stage with the presentation of three dice - should the numbers match on the first roll, a complimentary Amaro shot becomes the unexpected bonus.
