Drawing inspiration from the distinct flavours of Asia, Latin America and the Mediterranean, locals and visitors alike are treated to contemporary seafood and fresh local produce at Kelp Restaurant on River Street in Ballina. Beginning life as the fish and chip shop next door, Kelp is the love child of three childhood friends who combined the takeaway with a trendy restaurant that showcases succulent seafood in surrounds of timber bifold windows, painted brick and a well-stocked bar.
Why should you drop in for a meal at Kelp Restaurant? Here are three good reasons:
What’s your most popular dish:
Housemade swordfish sausage and peach mustard pickle.
What is your point of difference?
Delivering Ballina locals a quality food and beverage experience with a casual and affordable approach.
What is a fun fact that not many people know about the restaurant?
The dream all started in 2021 when we bought Dory’s Takeaway, the fish and chip shop next door; we were presented with the opportunity to do the restaurant too. The prospect couldn’t have been more exciting for us; being childhood friends creating a space for our friends, family and the public to enjoy and be proud of.
The three of us all grew up in the area but moved away and travelled and trained in our professions. Tim - being the Chef, Caia - the hospo superstar and James - is the builder.
We designed, built and created the two venues together and could not be more excited and proud to share them with you.
