With calling cards of sustainability and sociability, head to Toil & Trouble on Lygon Street in Brunswick East for plant-based fare with flair. Born to celebrate hospitality and plant-based diets for vegans and vegetarians along with those curious about the lifestyle, discover a unique culinary experience paired with specialty house cocktails delivered in surrounds of crazy pavers, subdued lighting and dark wood table settings.
Why should you drop in for a meal at Toil & Trouble? Here are three good reasons:
What’s your most popular dish/drink:
A must-try drink would be our Cats Pour - a signature drink composed of housemade spiced watermelon rum, blackberry conserve, amaro, triple sec, lime, tajin and a hint of smoked rosemary. This is used as a showcase of some of the standout housemade ingredients we use in our entire cocktail list.

In terms of food, a stand-out dish would be our rotisserie cauliflower - served with a preserved lemon and coconut purée, North African mechoul curry sauce, fried curry leaves and pine nuts with fresh micro coriander!
The combination of savoury and vibrant flavours sings together, combined with the cauliflower to culminate in a deliciously fresh and satisfying perfect bite. The gorgeous colour contrast on the plate of the deep green fried curry leaves decorating the cauliflower make it a visually stunning and absolutely mouthwatering must-try dish!
What's your point of difference:
Our most notable difference would be our plant-based philosophy; every item on our menu is fully vegan, down to our beer and wine list! We take the time to create thoughtful and intricate vegan meals, ensuring that absolutely no animal products are ever incorporated.
Our menu is constructed around seasonality, prioritising ingredients in abundance for the best quality and flavour. We rotate our menu frequently and in line with each season as they roll around, meaning we're always serving fresh, inspired, vegan deliciousness!

What is a fun fact that not many people know about the restaurant?
What most may not know is that we draw our inspiration from the Medusa - we draw on her themes of protection and warding off hostility by making it our mission to protect the earth with our philosophy of sustainability and greener eating!
Medusa has inspired our logo as well as our decor and we pay homage through using the snake motif in drawings and depictions around our venue, we even have a large portrait of her in our hallway dining area, designed and hand drawn by our team!
Are you always on the lookout for a new café, bar or restaurant to indulge yourself, family and friends?
