Raes on Wategos, one of Australia’s premier luxury travel destinations, has announced its collaboration with esteemed Australian fashion and lifestyle brand, Matteau. The partnership will debut an exclusive capsule collection of versatile resort wear in celebration of Raes on Wategos’ 30th birthday.
This will be followed by the unveiling of Matteau’s flagship store within The Bonobo by Raes, a new luxury lifestyle precinct opening in Byron Bay in 2025, along with a Matteau-designed uniform to be introduced across the Raes brand.
"We’re thrilled to unveil our partnership with Matteau, kicking off with the launch of our exclusive capsule collection this October”, says Raes on Wategos general manager, Marty McCaig. "As a fellow Australian brand dedicated to timeless design and considered luxury, joining forces with Matteau to bring this collection to life felt like the perfect alignment of our shared values and vision.”
The collaboration is a testament to the shared vision and aesthetic sensibilities of both brands. As the first element to launch as part of a wider partnership between the two luxury brands, Matteau has created a uniquely Australian capsule collection of timeless pieces that play comfortably in the lifestyle, hospitality and fashion spaces.
The collection includes: a short sleeve shirt inspired by a vintage men’s style, classic and relaxed long sleeve shirt, easy pull-on shorts and a comfortable yet elegant drawstring pant and all in silk crepe de chine, as well as a versatile sarong and scarf in cotton silk voile.
Designed with wearability and longevity in mind, the capsule collection is simple and considered, with the pieces able to be styled together for the ultimate Summer set, or worn as separates for a more casual look.
"Looking through the Matteau print archive, we saw an instant connection between our much-loved Talavera print and the iconic entrance tiles at Raes on Wategos,” says Peta Heinsen, co-founder and director, Matteau. "The collection is very much inspired by the coastal lifestyle of Raes.”
Drawing inspiration from the instantly recognisable entrance tiles of Raes on Wategos, Matteau has reimagined its much-loved Talavera print in an exclusive ‘Wategos and Cream’ colour palette, featuring tones of dusty blue inspired by the venue’s idyllic surrounds and the nearby Wategos Beach. The collection has been brought to life in four recognisable Matteau silhouettes - all made in Australia.
"I love that the heat forces one to pare back and dress more simply - I'm a firm believer that less is often more. In the Summer, my go-to pieces are typically our shirts, silk pants and a pair of sandals. Some combination of a lightweight shirt and relaxed pants is a reliable recipe for warm weather chic,” says Ilona Hamer, co-founder and creative director, Matteau.
The Raes x Matteau capsule collection is now available to purchase via Raes website and will also be accessible onsite at Raes on Wategos, at reception and via the in-room wardrobe, offering guests access to a suite of timeless looks during their stay.
