The pristine Sapphire Coast of NSW is home to arguably the best oysters you can find in Australia. As one of the most prominent oyster-producing environments in the country, millions are harvested from the waters each year.
The pristine, unspoilt estuaries make the perfect growing environment for oysters which can be savoured in local eateries and from oyster farm gates.
Local oyster growers, tour operators, restaurants and eateries, distilleries and more have joined together to present the Sapphire Coast Oyster Trail, designed to highlight the amazing and unique Sydney rock oyster story and related tourism experiences in the region.
It’s time to get people back into the region and share the stories of the local oyster growers and characters, meet the farmers, see how they shuck, visit the local restaurants, taste the local wines and gin.
To add to the food and wine scene, there are complementary experiences such as kayaking and exploring scenic and natural environments.
From Wonboyn in the south to Wapengo in the north, you can take a road trip along the Sapphire Coast Oyster Trail. Meet the growers at their ‘Shellar Doors’, taste freshly shucked oysters straight from the water, enjoy a tide-to-table dining experience and sample oysters from the key estuaries.
