The Essential Melbourne Cup Race Day Survival Kit

From not hitting the fizz too early to having a survival kit, here are a few pointers if you are heading to the track for Melbourne Cup race day on Tuesday, November 5.

Don’t peak too early:

For most of us, going to the races goes hand in hand with having a few drinks – however, try not to have too much Prosecco with breakfast on the big day if you want to stay the course! Water, water, water is the name of the game to go the distance and not peak too early.

Don’t suffer for fashion:

Melbourne Cup is an occasion where dressing to impress is obligatory – but think about comfort when planning your outfit. Can you wear those shoes all day, because believe going barefoot is not tolerated? Think about sun exposure if you are wearing a dress that is sleeveless and make sure to wear sunscreen if you don’t want to go home red-faced.

Splash the cash, but not too much:

There’s no doubt about it…you will probably bet on the races while you are at the track. Know your limits…set a budget and stick to it. Do you really want to wake up on Wednesday morning with endless bar receipts or race tickets on top of a bad head?

Have some emergency cash:

The emphasis here is on ‘emergency’! An extra glass of bubbles or another beer isn’t technically an emergency and neither is a hot tip for the filly your friend heard about in race 10.

Assemble your own MC survival kit:

As well as the mini-perfume, bronzer, mascara, compact mirror and lip gloss, you might want to consider some other items:

We suggest plasters for blisters from new and uncomfortable shoes or race-related war wounds, painkillers for said sore feet and sore head, flat shoes to give your feet a break, a safety pin for unexpected fashion faux-pas and chewing gum to get your minty breath back after a day of eating and drinking.

Don’t forget a portable charger if you don’t want your phone to die during mid-selfie!
