Cocktail of the Week from Longwang

The Chinese Dragon King of the Sea has arrived in Brisbane in the form of new dining destination, Longwang on Edward Street. With roots in Chinese mythology, the name Longwang is a homage to the revered Dragon King – a fitting moniker for Queensland’s first Asian bar and restaurant by seafood virtuoso, Michael Tassis and celebrated Chef, Jason Margaritis.

Custom-built over two storeys in what was a laneway between two buildings, Longwang boasts a private dining area, Chef’s Table and open-air bar with a curved frontage extending above the street.

Make sure to try The Phoenix cocktail next time you pull up a seat at the bar:

Cocktail of the Week from Longwang

The Phoenix is widely known as a mythological bird that would repeatedly die in a burst of flames. In Chinese culture, a phoenix often symbolises good fortune, good luck and harmony.

Made with white rum, dragonfruit, lychee and pineapple juice, this limited-edition cocktail is sure to hit the mark from an aesthetic and taste point of view.

For an added element of theatre to impress your guests when you make this cocktail at home, sit the drink in a small plate or saucer.

Wrap it in super fine steel wool – regular kitchen steel wool won’t work, so get some from Bunnings – the looser you make it, the better the flames!

Grab a lighter or match and slowly light the steel wool. If you recreate this recipe at home, be sure to share on socials and tag -@longwang.brisbane.

Try this cocktail on a Friday afternoon to relax after a long and stressful work week. Alternatively, you could take the party home and concoct the perfect drink to usher in the weekend.

Don’t forget to check out our Cocktail of the Week series, where each Friday we highlight a cheeky creation to tantalise tastebuds and set the tone for good times.
