The results are in!
Last night, S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna announced the winners for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2012, revealing Noma in Copenhagen to take first place for its third year running.
Heston Blumenthal has maintained international recognition with two of his restaurants listed in the top 15. Dinner by Heston was ranked at number 9, making it the highest ranking new entrant on the list.
What about Australia?
Of the four Australian restaurants that made it onto the list – which actually includes the world’s top 100 restaurants – Quay was ranked at 29, Marque at 61, Attica at 63 and Tetsuya’s at 76. Although three of the four have ranked lower than in 2011, a big congratulations is in order for our Aussie restaurants, whose tireless hard work, effort and dedication continue to fly the flag for Australian hospitality.
Quay chef Peter Gilmore has been more than pleased with the result of the team effort and award that has been received by the Sydney establishment.
"It is a real honour to be included on the top 50 restaurant list. This is our fourth time on the list and the part I look forward to most is catching up with my colleagues from around the world. It is the only event that brings us all together in the same place at the same time. It’s very exciting.”
For Gilmore, renowned for his nature inspired cuisine, his upcoming plans include a trip to Europe with his family, an opportunity he says will enable him to "reflect on the last year and provide creative inspiration for the year ahead”.
Peter has currently been experimenting with dishes like salted caramel with new season’s walnuts, prune and jersey milk ice cream with ethereal sheets, which may feature on future Quay menus.
