There’s Buns in the Oven at Brunetti Classico!

Brunetti Classico, the beloved institution known for its authentic Roman Italian offerings, says this Easter it expects demand for hot cross buns will rise.

Fabio Angele, owner of Brunetti Classico, says a spike in cocoa prices is the catalyst:

"The price of chocolate has increased due to the worldwide cocoa shortage. Therefore, we anticipate some of our customers will seek alternate Easter treats,” he explains. "Hot cross buns have always been one of our best sellers at Easter. To spice up our offering, in addition to our traditional product, we will have pistacchio and Nutella flavours this year.”

Hot cross buns will be available in single portions, starting from $4.90 for the traditional and $5.50 for the pistacchio and Nutella varieties. While the pack of six will cost $27 for the traditional and $30 for the pistacchio and Nutella flavours.

This Easter, the Italian Food Emporium is also whipping up a range of seasonal cakes, including a traditional Italian Easter dessert tart called PasWera, which originates from Napoli. It has a shortbread crust filled with wheatberry and ricotta, wonderfully perfumed with orange blossom water, cinnamon and candied fruit and it will be available in the lead up to Easter at Brunetti Classico’s Lygon Street and Moonee Ponds stores.

"For as long as I can remember, my 92-year-old father has baked his much-loved PasWera at Easter, it represents Easter to me. I really love this time of year and I’m sure my father’s recipe and traditions with continue in my family for many future generations,” says Fabio.

Back by popular demand is Brunetti Classico’s signature Easter treat, the Calimero.

"This adorable Easter treat is a delicious blend of milk and white chocolate and pays to homage to the beloved 1960s Italian duck cartoon character, Calimero. I’m sure it will capture everyone’s heart and taste buds,” Fabio explains. "For those who are entertaining, our Hen’s Nest celebration cake is ideal. It’s a delicious dark chocolate mousse with apricot jelly, vanilla Chantilly, crunchy hazelnut, on a hummingbird cake base.”

The full Brunetti Classico Easter range is available from March 18 at its Carlton and Moonee Ponds stores and a limited offer will be available at Coburg and airport sites.
