There’s nothing like live music to get toes tapping and voices singing along to some of our favourite tunes.
All around the country, a plethora of venues serve up live music to guests as they sip and eat their way through the weekend with friends and family.
Here are four we think you should add to your repertoire:
Tuesday Jam Night
Matso’s Brewery on Hamersley Street in Broome is the country’s most remote brewery. Matso’s entices guests through the doors with rustic timber floors, oak barrels and artefacts from its days as a general store, along with beautiful views over Roebuck Bay.
Sitting on the verandah with a cold ginger beer or a tasting paddle of five beer samples is highly recommended while listening to live music on Tuesday Jam Night; or join in the DJ action – bring your deck and crew and sign up when you get there for a night of music and share plates like spicy yakitori chicken wings, with spicy dipping sauce and sriracha mayo.
Showcasing Local Musical Talent
Find a welcoming country pub feel and fare with flair at The Home Hotel on Warburton Highway in Launching Place. Nestled by the Yarra River in Upper Yarra Valley, this historic watering hole has been everything from a Cobb and Co staging post to a post office since it was originally licensed in 1883; in 1905 the building was damaged by fire and in the 1930s a shoot-out and armed robbery took place at the hotel, which is also rumoured to be haunted.
Known for a commitment to showcasing local musical talent, enjoy regular live music sessions both on relaxed afternoons and lively evenings, where you can discover and enjoy captivating performances in August such as Greg White, Idol Idolisers, John Crosbie and Monday’s Open Mic Nights.
Live Entertainment Takes Centre Stage
Spend long afternoons and evenings enjoying time with family and friends at Cypress Lakes Bistro & Bar on the corner of McDonalds and Thompsons Roads in Pokolbin. Nestled in Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort, this casual dining destination boasts a full glass frontage with stunning views, along with polished wood floors, an open kitchen and spacious alfresco area for chilling out with a glass of wine or a cocktail.
As the day transitions into evening, retreat to the bar where live entertainment takes centre stage for a cheeky pre-dinner cocktail, then delve into pasta plates such as linguine with prawns, chilli, onion, garlic, chorizo and shaved Parmesan; perhaps roasted crispy pork belly hits the mark with sweet potato purée, Chinese broccoli and plum sauce.
Full Live Music Schedule
A beloved watering hole and gathering place since 1862, The Mansfield Hotel on High Street holds a significant place in the town’s heart. At the epicentre of Victoria’s magnificent High Country, this hotel has a classic wraparound verandah overseeing the street, while a century-old Pink Oak tree in the courtyard provides shade and a story or two for both locals and visitors.
